Liposuction (Suction-Assisted Lipectomy)
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that may be used to remove localised fat beneath the skin. It is commonly performed in areas such as the abdomen, hips, outer thighs, inner thighs, and flanks.
This procedure may be part of a broader treatment plan and can be performed alongside other body contouring surgeries. At Allure Clinic, related procedures include abdominoplasty, arm reduction, thigh reduction, fat transfer, and body lift. Treatment planning is based on an individual consultation and assessment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is liposuction performed in a hospital?
Liposuction is performed in accredited hospital settings. Very large-volume procedures or those carried out outside a hospital environment are associated with increased risks and are not performed at Allure Clinic.
Can skin irregularities occur after liposuction?
Changes in skin appearance may occur following liposuction. In areas where fat has been removed, skin irregularities may be noticeable if there is reduced skin elasticity. This can be influenced by factors such as genetics, age, previous weight changes, or pregnancy.
Temporary irregularities may also result from fluid accumulation or uneven fat removal. These risks are discussed during the consultation.
What is a realistic expectation from liposuction?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure used to address localised fat deposits. It is not a treatment for general weight loss or obesity. Factors such as skin elasticity, body shape, age, and fat volume influence the procedure’s results. These are discussed during consultation to support informed decision-making.
Is liposuction suitable for the lower abdomen?
Liposuction may not be suitable for patients with significant skin laxity, weakened abdominal muscles, or stretched tissue in the lower abdomen. In such cases, abdominoplasty may be considered instead. Sometimes, liposuction is combined with abdominoplasty to support individual treatment goals.
Does Medicare or private health insurance provide assistance?
Liposuction is generally considered a cosmetic procedure and is not eligible for Medicare rebates or private health fund benefits. However, in specific medical situations – such as fat deposits from trauma, steroid use, or certain endocrine conditions – support may be available. Patients are advised to seek formal assessment and check directly with their health fund.
Are there risks and complications with liposuction?
Liposuction is a surgical procedure and carries risks. These may include:
- Bleeding
- Bruising
- Infection
- Fluid accumulation (seroma)
- Irregularities in skin contour or firmness
- Numbness or altered sensation
- Changes in scarring or delayed wound healing
Patients are encouraged to share their full medical history to help the practitioner assess risks and plan the procedure.
