Our Practitioners may combine treatments designed to complement one another, with the aim of supporting your skin over time. Body Contouring

Changes in the shape or appearance of the body may occur over time or following events such as pregnancy, weight fluctuations, or ageing. These changes can affect areas including the abdomen, thighs, and arms.

Body contouring refers to a group of surgical procedures that may address concerns such as excess skin, localised fat deposits, or changes in tissue support. Procedures provided by Specialist Plastic Surgeon Dr Mark Magnusson, available at Allure Clinic in Toowoomba include arm lift (brachioplasty), thigh lift (thighplasty), abdominoplasty, liposuction (suction-assisted lipectomy), and body lift (belt lipectomy).

Some patients may proceed with a single procedure, while others may discuss combining procedures based on their concerns. An individual consultation is required to assess suitability and plan an approach that considers personal characteristics and goals.

Disclaimer: A referral from your GP is required before attending a consultation for any cosmetic surgical procedure.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What happens during body contouring surgery?

Arm Lift (brachioplasty) and Thigh Lift (thighplasty)
These procedures involve removing excess skin and tissue from the upper arms or thighs. Incisions are usually made along the inside of the upper arms or thighs. In some cases, liposuction may be included to address localised fat in these areas. The surgical approach is based on individual assessment.

Body Lift
A body lift may involve areas such as the lower abdomen, hips, buttocks, and lower back. The procedure includes adjusting tissue and removing excess skin through an incision made below the waistline. Liposuction may also be used during the procedure if localised fat is present. The size and position of the incision can vary depending on the areas being treated and the amount of tissue involved.

Patients who experience tissue laxity in the upper body may be appropriate for an upper bodylift, where an incision is made to remove excess skin from under the arms and upper back.

Abdominoplasty
This procedure involves adjusting skin and tissue in the abdominal area. It may also include support for the abdominal muscles when required. An incision is typically made along the lower abdomen. Liposuction may be included for localised fat deposits.

Liposuction
Liposuction involves the removal of localised fat through small incisions. A thin tube (cannula) is inserted to suction out fat in areas such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, back, or buttocks. It does not address excess skin or muscle laxity.

What is the recovery process like?

Arm Lift (brachioplasty) and Thigh Lift (thighplasty)
Recovery can vary, but patients may require one to two weeks away from work. Full healing of the surgical area may take several months. Activity restrictions are often advised during the early recovery period.

Body Lift (Belt Lipectomy)
Recovery may take several weeks. Physical activity, including exercise, is usually avoided for six to eight weeks or as advised by the practitioner. Compression garments may be recommended to support the area during healing.

Abdominoplasty
Return to work may be possible after about two weeks, but this depends on the extent of the procedure. Some patients may need additional time for recovery. Full activity is usually resumed gradually under clinical guidance.

Liposuction
Recovery time depends on the size and number of areas treated. Smaller areas may require a few days of recovery, while larger areas may need more time. Temporary swelling, bruising, or sensitivity may occur.
