FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do lip fillers work?

There are a number of lip fillers, each with their own benefits. Hyaluronic acid is a filler gel that is used most often for cosmetic lip enhancements. This is a naturally-occurring substance found in the human body. It has the remarkable ability to increase its volume. Hyaluronic acid draws water into the area that it is injected to. This, in turn, offers the plump look that you’re hoping for.

Can I get lips just like a celebrity?

It’s important to keep in mind that every person has his or her unique facial structure. Different lip structures, different genetics, different metabolisms, and so on. While you may admire the pout on a celebrity, your results may not look just like hers even with the right adjusted filler. Your lips have their own shape and will respond to the filler in their own unique way.

What can I expect during the procedure?

Your aesthetic goals will be discussed during your consultation. Be sure to be honest about the volume that you are hoping to achieve. Once ready, your lips will be prepared for the treatment.

A numbing agent in the form of a topical agent or injections can be applied. This will help to reduce any discomfort. Lip filler injections also contain a numbing agent that will help to control your discomfort.

A series of injections using small needles will be used to add volume to your lips. A less is more approach is recommended for lip fillers. You can always add more filler later on if you feel that you want to enhance your lips further. If you want to achieve a more natural-looking result though, it’s best to keep the filler to a minimum initially.

How long will the procedure take?

The average lip filler appointment will take between 45 and 60 minutes. This makes it the perfect lunch hour procedure.

Will lip fillers hurt?

Lip filler treatment should not be painful. Lips fillers are a non-invasive treatment. Your level of discomfort will vary greatly based upon your personal pain tolerance and on the technique used. Lip fillers contain a painkiller inside of the gel, which can help to further reduce your discomfort.

Are there side-effects to be concerned about?

Lip fillers are safe. There is still the potential for some side-effects that you should be aware of. The most commonly seen side-effects are bleeding at the injection site, bruising, redness and some swelling. These side-effects tend to subside a few days after treatment.

It is rare to experience serious side-effects when having lip filler treatment, however these are explained in more detail at your consultation. It is important to always share your complete medical history prior to any type of procedure, whether cosmetic or not.

Do I need to do anything after treatment?

There is no downtime after getting lip fillers. You can return to your normal routine and activities right after treatment. There may be some swelling after the procedure. Applying ice to your lips can help to reduce the swelling and any discomfort. It’s important that you stay hydrated, so be sure to drink plenty of water. Maintain your healthy lifestyle and keep your lip products to a minimum until the injection sites have healed.

Can lip fillers be removed?

Perhaps one of the best benefits to lip fillers is that they can be dissolved if you are unhappy with them. The dissolving enzyme is hyaluronidase. Once injected, it gets to work at breaking up the filler particles. The process takes just a few minutes and the results are almost immediate. It can take a few days for the filler and any swelling to completely go down.

Before you decide that you want to reverse your lip fillers, be sure that you have allow for the swelling to reduce. When lip fillers are first injected, the lips can look overly plump and artificial in some cases. This is why we opt for the more conservative approach with initial filler treatments. Once the initial swelling has subsided, you may just fall in love with your new plumped lips.

What do lip fillers feel like?

When you first get lip injections you may feel that your lips are larger than you’d anticipated. It’s important to keep in mind that the initial swelling after the injections will decrease. It can take time to get used to the feel of plumper lips. Within a few days of treatment, your lips will feel more natural. They will still feel like your own lips, just with more volume.

How long will lip fillers last?

Lip fillers will last an average of 6 months. Some may last as long as a full year. It will depend greatly on the amount of filler injected and, on the way, that your body metabolises the filler gel.

Are lip fillers right for me?

Patients who have severe allergies may not be the right candidate for lip fillers. If you take any type of medications or supplements that can thin your blood, you may experience a fair amount of bruising. Those who are prone to cold sores should proactively take preventative medications to avoid the potential for a breakout.
