CoolSculpting Australia

CoolSculpting is a cosmetic treatment that has been available in Australia since 2010, and worldwide, has been performed more than two million times. This treatment is a highly effective and widely popular procedure that removes fat permanently by literally freezing the fat cells away. Not only are the results impressive, it is also a non-surgical and non-invasive, affordable treatment which has also driven its popularity.

This procedure is proving to be an incredibly effective and safe way for patients to get rid of unwanted fat and is quickly becoming an alternative to the common procedure – liposuction. Many people go through rigorous diet and exercise routines and still have pockets of excess fat that can appear in a variety of body areas.

Areas of treatment (among others) include:

• muffin top
• chin area
• inner & outer thighs
• bra fat
• bra puffs
• love handles
• upper arms
• knees

While liposuction can be a very effective procedure to reduce these stubborn fat pockets, surgical procedures may not be necessary while treatments such as CoolSculpting are available.

CoolSculpting uses an approved device to chill the fat for up to an hour, with a session lasting one to three hours, producing a reduction in the fat thickness in the treated area. There are some initial indications that CoolSculpting may also improve skin texture and laxity, with a tightening of the loose skin.

So how does CoolSculpting actually work?

The device removes heat from the skin at a constant rate, rather than chilling to a particular temperature. While the underlying mechanism is unclear the current theory is that chilling fat tissue to just below freezing triggers ice crystals to form on the fat cells which leads to a natural cell death.

What are the expected results?

Patients see a permanent fat reduction of up to 25-30% of the area treated for each cycle. Depending on the amount of excess tissue, one or more treatments may be necessary, although many patients are satisfied after just one. CoolSculpting does not remove as much fat as a liposuction procedure, therefore it is important to discuss your goals and expectations during your consultation so Dr Magnusson can come up with a suitable treatment plan that will meet your specific needs.

What happens during the treatment?

A customised treatment plan will be developed to address your areas of concern. During the treatment, Dr Magnusson or one of our CoolSculpting Technicians, will position an applicator to the targeted area. The tissue is then drawn into a vacuum cup where controlled cooling is delivered to the targeted fat. The sensation is a firm pull and pressure—enough of a pull to ensure the selected tissue will be cooled most efficiently. A session takes approximately one hour per applicator, therefore depending on the number of areas treated and/or applicators required will determine your treatment length of time.

Can I return to normal activities after the procedure?

CoolSculpting is completely non-surgical, so typically you can return to normal activities immediately. Some patients experience redness, minor bruising, tingling, numbness or discomfort in the treated area, but this is temporary and will resolve completely. Often patients return to work after the CoolSculpting session is over.
