What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting cannot be used to lose excess weight or treat obesity. Instead, it’s a treatment designed to remove stubborn fat from areas such as the thighs, stomach, hips, arms and back. No surgery, needles or lasers are necessary to achieve this result. During your session, you can simply sit back and relax while the system gets to work. You are then free to return to your normal routine right away, including both work and exercise. In fact, exercising after your sessions can help speed up your progress.

How does CoolSculpting work at a biological level?

Research shows that fat cells are very vulnerable to extreme temperatures – more so than the surrounding tissue. When fat cells are exposed to extremely cold temperatures, they can be destroyed without the surrounding tissue being harmed, including the muscle and nerves. It’s this unique biological process that allows the CoolSculpting system to only target specific pockets of fat cells. It’s also this unique process that inspired the development of the CoolSculpting system.

Is the treatment invasive and is there any downtime?

Non-invasive procedures are any type of treatment that doesn’t require needles, anaesthetic, incisions, pain medication or recovery time. CoolSculpting sessions are comfortable and don’t involve any of these factors. In fact, sessions are so comfortable that patients can read a book, browse the web or listen to music. The cold sensation is something to get used to but there is no pain involved.

Which areas of the body can be treated with the CoolSculpting system?

CoolSculpting sessions can reduce unwanted fat in the abdomen, thighs, love handles, arms, back, buttocks and chin area. Different size applicators make it easy to target both larger and smaller areas.

Are there any side effects that I should know about?

CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved system and there are very few risks and side effects. During the procedure, you may feel intense cold, tingling and pulling but no major discomfort. Directly after your treatment, the treated area may be numb, swollen and bruised but this will subside within a few days. We will take you through all of the risks and complications associated with this treatment during your consultation.

What can I do to enhance my CoolSculpting results?

There are a few ways that you can make the most of your CoolSculpting treatments. Exercising for an hour at least five times a week is recommended. It is also important to choose the foods you eat. Diets that are high in clean foods such as fruit, vegetables and lean proteins will benefit you during your CoolSculpting journey and long thereafter. Undergoing our specialised Zimmer massage after each of your CoolSculpting sessions can also improve your results.

Will my CoolSculpting results be permanent?

Yes, CoolSculpting treatments are designed to produce permanent results. Once the integrity of the fat cells has been compromised, the cells die and are permanently eliminated from the body via the lymphatic system. Once the fat cells are gone, they don’t come back. With this being said, fat cells can grow larger in other areas of the body should you gain weight after your treatments. It’s very rare for new fat cells to grow in the treated area but any fat cells that stayed behind can expand.

Will I benefit more from CoolSculpting or liposuction?

CoolSculpting and liposuction are both ideal for getting rid of unwanted fat. The question of which procedure is better for you is dependent on your preferences. Liposuction can remove stubborn pockets of fat in one session but it is a surgical procedure, which means incisions, anaesthetic and recovery time is required. CoolSculpting may need multiple sessions to achieve a similar result but treatments won’t disrupt your normal routine and you won’t need to deal with any discomfort either.
